There are some things I just refuse to mess with, and tonight one of them decided to move into my garage. I know, I know…logic says he was more afraid of me than I was of him, but still – why risk it? I snapped a few pics, but as you’ll see I did so from quite a distance, which made them come out very, very fuzzy once zoomed far enough to recognize my new roommate. I haven’t given him a name yet, so let me know if you have any suggestions. I have a feeling he’ll be around for…well…as long as he damn well wants, ’cause I’m not going anywhere near him.
OH my god, you have to get that thing out of there. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing it was in my garage and he probably isn’t enjoying it either.
Here are two places you can call:

Florida Wildlife Control

Get on the phone and have someone else do the job! Really evil how his eyes glow in that picture, gah.
Or just pick it up and toss it outside. Looks like a common Corn Snake to me. Take a better picture!
Then again it could be a copperhead. Get a better shot of its head – It looks a little small and rounded to be a copperhead, but it’ll have little pits between it’s eyes and the tip of it’s mouth if it is.

Thanks guys. Another reader said it was a Corn Snake, as well, so that’s probably what it is. To be honest – now that I’ve visited that FL Snakes link – it looks more to me like a FL Scarlet or a Scarlet Kingsnake, both of which are harmless. Then again, they are both sometimes confused with the Coral Snake, which is certainly *not* harmless. I don’t plan on getting close enough to see what order the colored rings are in, and I’m sure as hell not flipping the thing over to see if they encircle the entire body or stop at the underside.
I’m just gonna call him Fluffy and leave him the hell alone.
It’s definately not a coral snake…the head is much too large and pointy for that, not to mention the wrong coloring. You two make a cute couple, let me know what china pattern you choose.
